Have Your Own Exhibit
The New Deal Cafe provides a venue for local artists to exhibit and sell their work. We have two
artists each month, one in each of our large rooms.
Exhibits have been booked through the end of November, but you can still participate in our
group show in December or plan an exhibition for 2008.
What You Need to Know to Successfully Install Your Art Exhibit at the New Deal Cafe
- Who is eligible for an art show at the cafe?
- Any person who lives, works, or has activity in the town of Greenbelt.
- How to apply for a New Deal Cafe art show
-
Contact the Arts Coordinator, Kristin Stenson, to schedule your exhibit today: newdealcafeart@yahoo.com.
- Liability and Damages
-
The New Deal Cafe and FONDCA are not responsible for any damage to the artwork while it is on the premises,
and neither the cafe nor FONDCA carries any insurance for the exhibition.
- Publicity
-
- A short write-up about you and your art and a few photos of your work will be posted on this website.
You can email your write-up and photos to webmaster@newdealcafe.com.
- FONDCA (Friends of the New Deal Cafe Arts) is willing to provide publicity for the exhibition and
reception if you can give them the information needed two weeks in advance of the installation.
They will need a short bio, background on the media and art as well as any interesting information
concerning the art and when it was done. Notices are put into the Greenbelt News Review and the Gazette.
- Installation
-
- Installation is done on the last Sunday of the month.
- Plan on approximately 2 hours for installation and de-installation of artwork at the Cafe.
- The hanging hardware and a ladder are provided by the New Deal Cafe at time of installation.
- If you have a physical limitation or need assistance with either the installation or
de-installation, please notify the Art Committee at
newdealcafeart@yahoo.com in advance in order for them to be able to have someone there at that time.
- The Cafe's space is limited to the front and back rooms with three walls to install artwork and
in the back room there are two walls. This however is subject to change as the cafe may make some
structural changes.
- The front room consists of approximately 26 feet of space in length of installation space that is
4 to 5 feet high. The back room consists of approximately 20 feet of space in length.
- We are suggesting that all artwork is hung at a centerline of 63 inches so everything looks consistent
throughout the exhibition.
- Please bring only as many works of art that can fit comfortably within the space provided.
Crowding the walls with more work doesn't present the art well.
- Sale of Artwork
-
- There is no commission charged by the New Deal Cafe at this time.ÊAll work must stay on the wall
until the exhibition is over unless a suitable replacement can be put in place.
- Patrons are to contact you directly and not go through the cafe staff regarding sales, so be sure
to include your contact information in the bio that you post in the cafe.
- De-Installation
-
- The art is taken down on the last Sunday of the month.ÊPlease show up on time, at 8pm, as there
will be an artist there to install their exhibition at the same time.
- At the end of your show, we would appreciate your comments so that we can improve our art program.
We have a short survey that we'd like you to answer about your exhibiting experience.
- Future Exhibits
-
- If you are interested in having another show at the New Deal Cafe, please contact the Arts Committee
to have your name placed on the list for any upcoming opportunities.
- You may have a second show two years after your first showing.
- The second show cannot contain work that you have displayed at the cafe before.
We encourage you to push the envelope, to provide art work that is both artistically excellent and
conversation-inspiring.
